Handmade tiles were first popularised in the UK about 20 years ago by imports from Mexico,and by Majolica tiles from Italy and Provence.Since then the idea has been adopted by UK studios and small factories,and now most hand-painted tiles or handmade tiles are designed and produced in the UK,to reflect our often idiosyncratic and individual taste in decoration and imagery.With over 15 years experience in the tile business we have contacts with the best handmade tile studios:lead time is often about 3 weeks rather than 'off-the-shelf',but it is certainly more'carbon-neutral' than waiting for lorries to arrive from Italy or Spain.
