All of our slate floor tiles are imported either from China,India,South Africa or Brazil.Riven slate is usually easier to seal than limestone,less vulnerable to domestic acids and generally sympathetic to low maintenance.The calibration process(eliminating the thickness variation inherent in a riven/ split material) with slate tiles is not always precise and therefore some variation in thickness is to be expected This is taken up by a variation in the amount of adhesive bedding.Special offer 30x30 slate tiles have a minimal amount of variation:larger format slate tiles or flagstones tend to have a bit more. The Brazilian Ardesia Slate tiles are sawn for an even calibrationand can therefore be used as wall tiles as well as floor tiles. The slate flagstone tiles are an effective way of achieving an authentic look without the expense of a limestone.The large formats do mean that the tiles are uncalibrated and an allowance should be made for generous quantities of adhesive.
